On The Road Home

Image
We've had a couple family members get in touch and we realized it's been 10 days since the last blogpost. So, catching up. . . Finally! I picture of Bob and Lauren. We stopped to visit Lauren over last weekend. We had a great time doing some antiquing and she and her friends took us out to Toad Sucks Bucks, a Arkansas River bank joint with great steaks and live music. We had a blast. Next stop, Mom's house. Mary lives in Illinois just east of St. Louis. It was a great visit with Mom and Bob's sister Eileen, husband Jeff and grandbaby Preston, but no picture (we did it again!) We are making our way home. Currently at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground where there is a 3 yr. old horse event happening which sounds very interesting. Tonight,Townsend, Tn. where we will be visiting Bob's daughter, Tabetha, husband Jeremy and kids, Ayla and Jayden. We'll head to Raleigh for an overnight to visit Meadow, and Jason and Jess. On Wed. head home with a st

Gallup and Santa Fe

We spent one day in Gallup, New Mexico. The town is lined with Native American Art Galleries (many are like museums), jewelry fabrication supply shops, and Native American craftspeople. In a supply shop Bob struck up a conversation with another shopper who answered questions about choosing shell material. The mans name is Bruce Joe. He is a well known, accomplished Native American jewelry artist. We also met one of my Native American jewelery heros, Lyndon Tsosie. Lyndon is a award winning jeweler who teaches in workshops and online videos. We moved on to Santa Fe on Friday, March 10. BLM camping reviews for the area mentioned roaming dogs and people- we made reservations at Sata Fe Skys RV park! These photos are from the park. Metal yard art is common here. These pieces are in the campground. We were winging our visit to Santa Fe. FYI: the Georgia O'Keefe museum tickets are 30 days advance The Art Museum and History Museum are closed on Mondays. We were happy to b

Change of plans. Bob has been dealing with nose bleeds again. We think the dry air and dust have caused the flare up, so we are going to start our way back east. We did take a ride to see Joshua Tree National Park. It is a mountainous and rocky desert park and I know we would have liked camping there, but on the other hand, we had been in the desert for awhile and didn't mind moving on. First stop, Kingman, Az. We visited the Kingman Turquoise Mine Store. Beautiful turquoise, 98% of which is from the Kingman mine. We were able to have lunch with a Marine that Bob flew with back in the 70's. It was fun to listen to them reminisce. But, damn! We forgot to get a picture! Ugh!! Above is a photo from the road to Gallup, NM. I am looking forward to visiting a couple jewelry supply shops that we have been buying from for years that are located here and we've learned that there is a Turquoise Trail National Scenic Byway! Definitely want to check that out! We are staying at

We left our spot in Quartzsite on Thursday after some heavy showers the day before. Had some great rainbows while we were there with purple added to the mix. Had not seen that for a long while! The balloon festival that was happening while we were there had to cancel the flights due to high winds. Did not come below their 15mph limit for safe launching the entire 3 days scheduled. LeeAnn got real excited hearing Coyotes for the first time. Had a bunch of them wake us up the morning we were leaving. The drive was only a few hours to our next destination in California, the Palm Springs area where we had a reservation in a KOA for a few nights of hookups, restocking, and a LONG shower after all the dust while boondocking in Quatrzsite. The drive was made quite a bit longer by a vehicle inspection point entering CA. and some road construction coming out of the hills. The road construction back up was about an 1 1/2 hours of crawling down hill. At least it was downhill and cool! Sinc
