We left our spot in Quartzsite on Thursday after some heavy showers the day before. Had some great rainbows while we were there with purple added to the mix. Had not seen that for a long while! The balloon festival that was happening while we were there had to cancel the flights due to high winds. Did not come below their 15mph limit for safe launching the entire 3 days scheduled.
LeeAnn got real excited hearing Coyotes for the first time. Had a bunch of them wake us up the morning we were leaving.
The drive was only a few hours to our next destination in California, the Palm Springs area where we had a reservation in a KOA for a few nights of hookups, restocking, and a LONG shower after all the dust while boondocking in Quatrzsite. The drive was made quite a bit longer by a vehicle inspection point entering CA. and some road construction coming out of the hills. The road construction back up was about an 1 1/2 hours of crawling down hill. At least it was downhill and cool!
Since we have been here we have done a little exploring in the area and found a great little Mexican Restraunt in Desert Springs. We found a museum called Cabot's Pueblo Museum. This was the Pueblo style home that Cabot Yerxa built and lived in until his death in 1965. He was the person that discovered the hot springs in the area and with a partner, commercialized the Hot Springs. Set on the side of the hills overlooking the valley and the neighboring mountain ranges. Had a massive wood carving that was really cool!
We will go out for a little more exploring today before we start packing up and filling up to head into Joshua Tree NP for a few days. Watching the weather real close! Winds came up yesterday afternoon and the camper has been rocking hard since! Heavy snows not to far north of us will probably keep us from that direction of travel.
There are a lot of fancy RVs here, but this one looks ready for anything! Just a few of our treasures. I am not usually attracted to the surf board and car resin cabachons, but these bulls-eye surfite pieces were calling to me. The large blue/green stone is a new one to us. It looks just like chrysocolla and malachite, but it isn't. It's cornitite mined in it's own mines in Africa. There are two rose cut sapphires and two pieces of moldavite, which is a glass formed from a meteor impact (according to people who are knowledgeable about crystals it is very powerful). We're ready for another beautiful sunset. So Beautiful! On the road back to Tucson for the Gem and Rock show. We took a route around Phoenix. Phoenix is HUGE! Raleigh on steroids, and spread out for miles and miles and miles.
