At Oliver Lee Memorial State Park near White Sands, N.M.

The landscape is so much different than what we are used to, we are in awe of it! We hit snow a couple times on the trip here from Roswell. Gratefully, it did not stick or cause us problems driving. Really nice campground and the hosts are very active, which was a surprise for us. They drive around in a golf cart continually just making themselves available for firewood and whatever else they might help with. Very nice. It appears a UFO followed us from Roswell! Bob loved cooking over an open fire.

In pursuit of Aliens, Roswell, NM

Image
We started our Roswell visit at the International UFO Museum. The information about the ufo crash was presented day by day with accounts by witnesses and officialdom. Very interesting. Next, a virual reality experience as though we were the aliens that crashed. Awesome! I do love virtual reality programs. Something I thought peculiar-we definitely wanted to check out Mexican food for lunch and went to a 4+ star restaurant. On the door was the info that they are a Mexican and Chinese Buffet Restaurant. The Mexican was from a menu but.... After checking on Charlie, we were off to fight Aliens at a UFO Blacklight Adventure. And Good Night from this pretty spot!

Traveling West and South

We traveled on Friday and Sat. across Oklahoma and into Texas to the Cadillac Ranch RV park in Amarillo. A bit of a white knuckle drive for Bob in what Oklahoma weather noted as "Fair" winds. I noticed flags standing straight out and pointing north while we traveled west. Definitely small craft advisory winds back home. The Cadillac Ranch RV park is a convenient overnight with a very cool neon sign. A Camping World is only a mile away and we did take advantage of that and upgraded our leveling ramps to plastic so that even I can carry them around. We decided to hit a couple tourist sights on our way to Tuscon; Roswell and White Sands, New Mexico. Some of the main roads off the major interstates were just country back roads and Bob did think I'd made a navigational mistake. We are in the Red Barn RV park in Roswell now. It's a very nice, small campground and Charlie is loving it. He can play ball here (we can't always do that while camping) and take long...

Iced In In Arkansas

Image
High teens and low 20's for a couple days. BBBrrrrrrrrrrr! Thank Heavens for Laurens wood stove keeping the house toasty and in the RV the Little Buddy is a blessing. We believe we will be able to pull out tomorrow and head toward Oklahoma City. Charlie keeping warm next to the Little Buddy heater. We think he's has had enough of the cold!

We were surprised by the drive to Bob's daughter, Lauren's house. It is much like the drive up the Blue Ridge to Spruce Pine. Round Mnt. lots are 5 acres, so there is a lot of forest and though not it's prettiest right now Lauren tells us it's gorgeous in the spring and it's easy to see why since there are flower bulbs and perennials scattered around tall trees a fish/frog pond, fences, deck and porch. We took highways from Harvest, Al. to Conway, Ar. Rt. 72 to a loop around Memphis to Rt. 40. It was 8 hrs. with gas and lunch stops. It's hard to believe but Lauren is just 5 miles from 40! An ice storm is predicted for tonight so we're staying put for a couple days. We are mostly comfortable in the RV, but the floor is cold. Bob brought warm slippers and I'll definitely add them next time along with a warm pull over.

Monday night we stayed at the Big Oak Campground in Tallahasee, Fla. Our plans to visit friends in Pensacola, Fla. were scatched when we saw the weather report warning of a potentially dangerous storm moving across the gulf. Instead we headed north to Bob's son, Kyle, and his family in Harvest, Al. We didn't hit anything but a few drops on the trip. Kyle has been showing us the rock highlights of the area. Miss Mary's in Huntsville was awesome! Easily as many stone bead strands as any gem and rock show plus antiques of all sorts. Today, Earth Forged Rock Shop and then the Lowe Mill which is a huge old factory that has been divided up into artist studios. Artist of all sorts and a lot to see. And a Meadery which we had to check out since Bob has been making meade. We spent most of our time with an awesome lapidary and wire wrap jeweler, Louise Fletcher. Three generations of Snow Men, Kyle, Devon and Bob. The Alabama family, minus Devon. Left to right Aiden, S...

Visiting Adrian and the Boys

Image
I love this photo of Adrian and the boys. Gorgeous! And the first thing I noticed when we went to their home. Ethan is an awesome hockey player and we had a blast watching him play. He scored and did a fantastic job as a goalie too! We visited a reptile rescue center where the boys were excited to hold an alligator, but ended up holding pythons, too! I love the look on Ethan's face here, but neither he or Caleb were uncomfortable with the snakes. Caleb finally ran out of steam! Adrian and proud Pappa
