Monday night we stayed at the Big Oak Campground in Tallahasee, Fla. Our plans to visit friends in Pensacola, Fla. were scatched when we saw the weather report warning of a potentially dangerous storm moving across the gulf. Instead we headed north to Bob's son, Kyle, and his family in Harvest, Al. We didn't hit anything but a few drops on the trip.
Kyle has been showing us the rock highlights of the area. Miss Mary's in Huntsville was awesome! Easily as many stone bead strands as any gem and rock show plus antiques of all sorts. Today, Earth Forged Rock Shop and then the Lowe Mill which is a huge old factory that has been divided up into artist studios. Artist of all sorts and a lot to see. And a Meadery which we had to check out since Bob has been making meade.
We spent most of our time with an awesome lapidary and wire wrap jeweler, Louise Fletcher.
Three generations of Snow Men, Kyle, Devon and Bob.
The Alabama family, minus Devon. Left to right Aiden, Stepanie, Kyle, Brendan, me and Bob.
On the road this morning headed to Conway Arkansas to visit Bob's daughter Lauren.
There are a lot of fancy RVs here, but this one looks ready for anything! Just a few of our treasures. I am not usually attracted to the surf board and car resin cabachons, but these bulls-eye surfite pieces were calling to me. The large blue/green stone is a new one to us. It looks just like chrysocolla and malachite, but it isn't. It's cornitite mined in it's own mines in Africa. There are two rose cut sapphires and two pieces of moldavite, which is a glass formed from a meteor impact (according to people who are knowledgeable about crystals it is very powerful). We're ready for another beautiful sunset. So Beautiful! On the road back to Tucson for the Gem and Rock show. We took a route around Phoenix. Phoenix is HUGE! Raleigh on steroids, and spread out for miles and miles and miles.
Probably the biggest Live Oak Trees I have ever seen! The branches on the largest one came to the ground and were going back up. Had a picnic area and a fire pit under its canopy!
ReplyDeleteWhat is that dinosaur building? Looks like something Caleb would love! 🦖 Looks like you had a fun time with Kyle and the family! 👋
ReplyDeleteCaleb might have a ball running around. There are long wide hallways that T and L every which way. We would need to put a tracker on him! But really not a fun kids space; all artists and galleries, etc.
DeleteIt is the entrance to an old factory that is now Art Gallery with individual shops and Artisans.
